H12 A scare military issue portable typewriter contained in its original wooden transit box. The typewriter is in good working order and by the maker OLYMPIA of Erfurt, and on the number 5 key it has the SS runes. The item came directly from the man who rescued it from a surrendered Kriegsmarine destroyer in Denmark at the end of 1945. The man in question was Colour Sgt. Eric Seal who served in the 2/7th battalion the Warwickshire regiment who then volunteered for service in the new airborne forces in 1940, he is recorded on parachute course 13 in May 1942. He then served in No 2 commando and 11 special air services (SAS) and served in North Africa and the drop in Sicily and Italy. He was sent to Arnhem on September 18th 1944, his glider was hit on landing and the jeep and contents were destroyed. Seal was one of the few who survived and made it back across the Rhine. He died in March 2003 at the age of 83. The man by request wrote in felt tip pen on the inside lid of the transit case who he was and where he picked up the item. Very few items I have had come with any history, but its nice when they do. I have had this in my own collection for some years but time to move it on. £725
